Virginia Beach - The Place to Be

writing a book set in virginia, but i live in California?

Ok, i know its really stupid of me to write a book set in Virginia, but i read a article in a magazine about it and i new it was the perfect place... well... I sorta changed it... but anyways, these are my questions to the Virginia peeps: 1. in September, does it rain, snow, or just regular sunny...? 2. do people surf at the beaches? 3. are there mansions and like rich communities? 4. were there private schools, if so were there snobs there like any other private school? 5. any other helpful stuff about Virginia would be MUCH appreciated! Especially if there is like prostitution behind closed doors and stuff... juicy truth is what i like in my stories. Something i never go back on, Use the truth when your somewhere you've never been! =] thanks for the help!

    1. It’s hot and pleasant, with the weather just starting to turn at the end of the month.

    2. Not very much. Virginia Beach doesn’t have much in the way of surfing waves.

    3. McLean, Virginia, is wealthy. Fairfax County has the highest per capita income in the United States. Charlottesville has some old wealthy houses, and as far as I can tell real estate trading there is a kind of pastime.

    4. Of course–Potomac School. There are others. Madeira? Lots of horsy communities, in Loudoun County and Middleburg, Vrginia, in Upperville and Delaplane. Saddle and tack shops, fox hunting, and so on. Tally ho!

    5. Well, I live in Virginia, so I know a lot, but “stuff” is too vague. There is prostitution in every city in America–in Richmond, the capital, in Roanoke, and probably even in Alexandria, outside of DC, where I live. There are some pretty seedy looking motels down Route 1, although I’ve never investigated whether you can rent them by the hour–or investigated them at all.

The western parts in the Shenandoah are pretty; it’s good horse country, with rolling hills, lots of bluebirds and buntings. We hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Southwest Virginia is rural and parts of it are poor, but it is all quite lovely. Lots of Bible best stuff down there–Liberty University, Jerry Falwell (died in 2006, I think), and the rest of it.

I live in Virginia Beach, so I don’t know if thats where your book is set exactly in Virginia.
September..(this last one) was fairly warm still. I’d say it didn’t get nasty and rainy or cool till the end of Oct, beginning of November. I definitely remember laying out at the beach in the middle of Sept.

haha…when we have waves, yes people surf. My husband surfs any chance he can get here. First Street..at the jetty, Croatan, the North End and Sandbridge are some of the spots you can find surfers.

There are private schools here. Although I never went to any of them. I did find that the public schools that were zoned for the neighborhoods of more wealth, had uptight people. Eventhough, you can usually find that at any school.

I’ve lived here my entire life. Virginia Beach can get boring for sure. Especially in the winter. Summer is the best. Beach, bike and booze..haha. Lots of concerts on the beach too.

Hope that helps and good luck!!
